Refinancing Checklist

Getting organized is a great way to start the refinancing process, and it all begins with gathering required paperwork. Here are the documents you need:

Proof of income

  • Pay stubs for the last 30 days
  • W-2 forms for the last two years
  • Tax returns for the last two years
  • Pension income statements
  • Brokerage statements detailing dividend income
  • Child support/alimony
  • If self-employed:
    • Year-to-date profit and loss statement and balance sheet
    • Personal and business tax returns

Statements of debt

  • Car loans
  • Student loans
  • Credit card accounts
  • Current mortgage or home equity lines of credit
  • Divorce decree detailing alimony or child support payments

Statements of assets

  • Checking and savings account statements
  • Credit union statements
  • Mutual fund accounts
  • IRA & 401(k) retirement account statements
  • Security accounts (stocks, bonds, life insurance)


  • Social security number
  • Your addresses from the last two years
